Creating a Well-Appointed Guest Room

Whew...this 4 day week is killing me. Too much to do, too little time! Anyhow, check out my post over on the HomeGoods blog today. I've provided some ideas on how to create a great guest room. I think you'll like my tip on how to get bed linens that look freshly pressed without ever touching an iron :)

Be sure to share any of your favorite ways to make house guests feel welcome!

  1. Lovely room - I wish I was your guest! You seem to have thought of everything; do you have any problems with them refusing to leave?! I love the layered rugs in the room above and I have to try that tip about the sheets. :)

  2. Love this! Oddly enough my hubby is the one who is super finicky about the presentation of our guest room. I guess he visited some friends one time who provided a basket of bath towels, hand towels and some other little necessities and he was blown away by how thoughtful this little touch was.

Now if I could only get him to remove his guitars, loose change and random clothes from our guest room and we could almost attempt to be so refined.

  7. Thanks for the wrinkle tip. I have to try that on my own bed.
One thing I have noticed when staying with friends is the room is always missing an alarm clock. I wake up in the middle of the night & like knowing what time it is without having to pull out my phone.

  9. Kate - that is too funny about your husband! I had the same battle with my husband about removing his golf clubs and fishing equipment from the guest room closet. I won the fight but I also ended up moving everything myself. It's all in the garage now...where sporting goods should live :) Good luck with the guitars, clothes, and change!

  12. Love the tip on the sheets! And I'm also impressed by the pitcher of water. Such a simple thing that everyone wants, but I've never thought to do it.

  13. Gorgeous...do I spy a John Robshaw robe in the pic???? I had the king shams ordered in that fabric from OKL, they botched the order 4 times until they finally went out of stock and are no longer available. I'm having a hard time forgetting about them!!!

  14. Cassie - Good eye! That is a John Robshaw robe. I stalked that fabric too! I wish they'd bring it back into production...it's so fun. So sorry to hear about the trouble with OKL. Sounds very frustrating!

  16. THANK YOU!

I am obsessed with stiff, pressed linens and your damp sheet technique did the trick yesterday. I've found that even the expensive high threadcount sheets wrinkle so easily, what gives?

I let my standard, Ralph Lauren sheets damp dry on my bed and they were almost hotel-like when I slipped into bed last night.

    :) so happy thanks!

  18. Hi! The color is BEAUTIFUL! But I just went to Restoration Hardware Website and they don't have Slate Gray. Could it be Flint?
    Thank you so much!
