Pillow Placement Predicament

I recently ordered a bold turquoise and orange Sabira Home pillow, mainly because it looked strikingly similar to my favorite lamp.

I envisioned it in our den, but now that it's in the room, I'm wondering if it's too matchy-matchy. What do you think? I paired it with my zebra pillows (West Elm) on the sofa...

Here's my normal setup...

Which way looks better?

Perhaps it should it go in this little bedroom?

Thoughts? Opinions?

  1. i think i have to agree... it's a nice color pop without the pillow. with it, it seems a bit too much. i say, save it for the bedroom. :)

  2. Hi! Love the "pop" it brings to that side of sofa/room! I think it looks great there - and not too "matchy matchy"... What a beautiful room you have!

  3. I actually love it in both places. In your living room it adds a perfect bit of turquoise to tie it all together. But in the guest bedroom it seems like a finishing touch! Either one is beautiful.

  4. I think it really pops in the living room even though it matches with the lamps. Pairing it with the zebra pillow is a great idea. ITs definitely too matchy-matchy in the guest room. Love it in the living room!

  5. Definitely on the sofa in the den! In ties in so nicely with everything else.

  6. I love the pillow in the bedroom - with the oranges. For some reason, I think your living room/family room looks best without it, a bit more understated but still really fun with the black and blue geometric pillows. anyhow - love all of it!!

  7. I love it in the den (on the sofa as in the first pic)! I find it too matchy-matchy in the bedroom, actually.

  8. I agree with you... too matchy, matchy in the living room. My vote is for the guest bedroom!

  9. I was loving it on the sofa but when I saw it on the bed I forgot all about the sofa :)

    Looks great!

  10. I think definitely the guest bedroom, though I do love the pop of colour in your living room.

  11. That's whats so great about your house--everything looks good everywhere! I think I may prefer the bedroom, though. Looks like it was made for that spot.

  12. I think it looks great on the couch. Not too matchy matchy. Definitely leave it there.

  13. It looks good in both rooms, but it does give the bedroom that extra "pop"

  14. I like the pop of color that it adds in the living room and how it plays off the lamp. (It also looks amazing in the bedroom too so you can't go wrong!) I know I mentioned it before, but I love that lamp!

  15. I think it looks best in the bedroom. It draws to much attention in the living room and you definitely don't want to take away any attention from those beautiful lamps:)

  16. i love it on the couch, it adds a great pop of color to it and ties in with all your lamps.

  17. I like it better on the sofa... I find that in the original set up the sofa just blends into the background. With the new pillow, it helps tie the room together, and it's not matchy-matchy. I also thought that it got a bit lost in the bedroom!

  18. much much nicer on the sofa, needed that touch of color! I think it looks too bohemian asian in the guest room, a little too much going on. your house is lovely.

  19. I like it on the sofa, too. Also, I'd love to know where your sofa is from. Can you tell us? Thanks!

  20. Anon - the sofa is made by Sherrill. It's one of the few sectionals that they make. If you search Sherrill on this blog, I have the style number and link in a previous post.

  21. I luuurve the new pillows on the couch! Stick with it, it's not too matchy at all!

  22. I like the freshness and pop that it and the zebra pillows add to the living. Very fun!

  23. Love it in the living room. Here's why. When I look a the room with the pillow, my eye first sees the lamp on the right, then it travels to the pillow and then I see the turquoise lamps behind the sofa. Without the pillow, I look at the lamp. My eye doesn't travel to the other turquoise in the room. I think the boldness of the pillow does the trick.

In the bedroom, it looks like "I found this pillow that has the colors of this room, so I bought it".

  24. I like it in the living room but it feels un-even. like the other side is missing something.

and i'm not sure i'm sold on it being in the guest room either.

i definitely like it in the living room but something is off and i can't put my finger on it.

  26. I like it better in the bedroom. I like that it has the colors of the lamp but I don't like that it seems to be the same pattern.

  27. Looks great in both rooms... but best on the sofa!!

  28. I prefer your original set up, gorgeous, and the new pillows in the guest room.

  29. It really is a perfect compliment to the lamp, but a little too much in the same room IMO. So great in the guest room. Maybe just an orange pillow with no blue for the sofa?

  30. I prefer it in the bedroom. That being said, I think you should find a way to keep the zebra pillows on the sofa - loving how they play off that rug.

  31. Love the zebra pillows on the sofa. Not loving the new pillow on the sofa...it does come off a little too matchy-matchy. What about in one of the other guest rooms?

  32. I think it looks great on the sofa!

  33. I like the burst of color...but maybe not that one....

  34. the new pillows. no doubt. it creates such a pop compared to the old ones. its def NOT matchy matchy. check out my blog. im picky. trust me.

  35. im thinking i might switch the throw blanket too if you keep the new pillow set up- but thats REALLY getting picky and I'm not sure on that.

  36. i don't find it too matchy matchy in combo with your other accents, but i do loves it in the guestroom for sure. what a fun predicament - it looks good anywhere!

  37. I really love your sofa. Can you please tell me who makes it? I vote for your pillow in the guestroom.

  38. I like it in the guest bedroom, but have you tried it on the brown chair in your living room?

  39. Love it in the bedroom for sure! But either way its a win win to be honest..

I have a favor to ask- could you please let us know where you purchased the beige couch?? Ive been looking for one just like yours everywhere- with no luck what so ever...

  40. Anon - the sofa is made by Sherrill. It's one of their only sectional options so it's easy to find on their site. Also, the fabric might look beigey in the photos, however, it's definitely more on the warm gray side in person.

  41. I really love the pillow in the guest room - agree it's a bit matchy in the den.... BUUUT, I think the pop of color works great in the den to play off of the gorgeous pair of lamps - maybe it's just a matter of finding a different fabric that pops? Coral/Acqua patterns will be super fun and easy to find. Love the Zebra against the bright colors, too.
