Changing It Up

After playing with my new Cococozy throw yesterday, I started thinking about how great it might look in our guest bedroom. So I went in there and tested the waters. I removed the duvet and a few of the pillows and then brought in the leopard printed throw pillow as an accent. Basically, I changed the room's "outfit" and achieved a totally different look within a few minutes. Take a look...

Pretty isn't it? After the experiment, I'm thinking of changing some things up so that I can put the above plan into action. I might move the suzani rug, the orange Greek key pillow, and the black floral crewel shams into the other guest room and go with a more neutral palette in here. I'd play up the blues and the aquas in the artwork. I think this might be a good plan because the other room needs more color because it's larger and doesn't have great natural light.

Here's the current state of the room...

Which way do you like it?

  1. I really love both but the first picture with the cococozy throw is my favorite. It feels like you could walk into the room and just sense the tranquility. While, the second room, while visually stunning feels a little more cramped and the color palette slightly overpowering. Just my two cents! Love your house and your blog.

  2. Hi Kyle! I am here for the first time via Coco's. Gosh you have a gorgeous home! I really can't decide on which room I like. Both are equally beautiful, but the throw does make the space look brighter. Perhaps the current look could be the fall/winter look and you could switch it up with the throw in the spring/summer.

  4. Jensy, I'm feeling the same way about the color palette being overpowering. That's why I'm thinking of transitioning some of the blog pieces to the big guest room - it can handle the color and pattern!

  5. I love the change, especially for summer! Lightens the room up a ton. Anything you do though, I love! I was curious....are the curtains in this bedroom the same as the ones in your formal living? And if so, could you tell me where both are from and texture. I thought I read you said Pottery Barn cotton panels? Thanks! I LOVE your blog so much and look forward to your posts everytime!!

  7. Jennifer, the curtains are the same as the ones in the living room. They are ivory raw silk and were purchased at Pottery Barn a few years ago. They no longer make them but you can sometimes find them on Ebay. The style/description is: Anna Drapes.

  8. I do like both, but I think the more neutral pallet looks nicer in the space of the room.

  11. Hi Kyle,

I agree that I like the first picture too and the throw is gorgeous. Can you share the name of the fabric on the leopard throw pillow? I'm looking for some thing just like that for a room I'm working on. Love your blog too!

  13. They both look fantastic. One for when you feel fiery, one for when you feel peaceful. Love cococozy's new line!

  15. I have to admit....I am loving that new look. Soothing in a bedroom is alwasy good. And, I love to move things around. Now you'll have a fab bedroom and guest room, too!!!

  16. I favor the first shots of the bedroom. The orange splash of color is nice in the second bedroom photo but, it lacks a sense of balance and flow. The first option at the top is balanced, serene and filled with subtle texture. I love the geometry the throw adds to the bed. I am not a fan of a rug under the bed. It seems out of place.

  20. I really like the throw in the guestroom rather than the living room. It ties in the pretty gray of the walls to the bed. The first photos look very inviting and luxury hotel like. Also, I love the charming craftsman style bed frame - where is that from? Thanks for all your blogging expertise!

  22. hmm although I do love it how it is now, the addition of the cococozy throw and pillow switcheroo really gives the room a sophisticated, understated feel. so i say option #2 with the throw! :)

  23. Hi Kyle,

You inspired me to do the same at my house!

I love the way you basically gave a lesson in ways to throw a throw. I got some great ideas....ways to show off a throw that I had never thought about. You should write a book! Now I have one laying across my bed like you have it here and another on the back of the sofa the way you showed it.

So funny the throw inspired you it seems and you inspired me!

  24. I love the first photo. I love the color of the paint on your walls. Do you remember the brand and color by any chance. The throw is such a great accent piece.

  25. I love the serene new look...but I can never stay away from color for long, so i'd probably mix it up with the brights from time to time.

i have those same lamp shades...love them!
