At Home with J. Lo

So yesterday I posted a photo from Jennifer Lopez's house...it was a pic of a pretty guest bedroom. I'm still reeling from the fact that the home of Jenny from the Block is in stately, venerable Veranda magazine. Judging from J. Lo's rather flamboyant style, I was shocked to see that she has such a tasteful, elegant home. She tapped designer Michelle Workman to execute the project and the end result is beautiful.

Not sure that I would choose blue cabinets, but it works well here. I wish there was a better shot of the smoky mirrored backsplash.

This is my favorite area...I LOVE this dapper black table!!

This narrow shot leaves me curious about this room...maybe there are more photos in the actual mag. I obviously need to see if this issue is available on Zinio!

Gorgeous dining chairs by Baker with Kravet fabric. Along with the chandelier the chairs are the best part of this room to me. I'm not wild about the pink wallpaper and I hate a dining room without a great rug. The rug thing may just be a styling decision for the photo shoot.

I'm loving the Jan Showers Collection bench and the sparkling chandelier.

Are you surprised that this is where J. Lo lives? What do you think of it? As I said before, it's beautiful, however, every room seems a bit aloof and lacks a sense of livability.

  1. Your last comment took the words out of my mouth. It's a beautiful home but it leaves me wondering where her twins play.
I love, love design and am constantly changing my decor around and adding to it. However, the most important part of designing my own home is creating a space that my children love to be and can make memories that last a lifetime.
I have vowed not to be the prettiest home on the block that nobody wants to spend time in.
That being said, it's a beautiful home!!! :)

  2. I think its pretty, but devoid of any spark of personality. There's an awful lot of white/pale blue/pale peach fabrics and carpeting, which my kids would destroy in 3 seconds. Either she's reeeeally laid back or the kids live in the attic.

I think the article said that the designer was nearly finished decorating it in a French country style when JLo changed her mind completely and redid the whole thing in this style.

  3. I love it, so soft and not what I would have expected. It's beautiful....

  4. Now, now...it just goes to show we should'nt judge a 'flamboyant style' by it's cover!

  5. there's something about the photos that look very photoshopped. the living areas and the kitchen especially. does anyone else notice that?

  6. The colors are ok, it does feel a little bland. I'm surprised she has so much machine made furniture in her space.

  7. I think it looks beautiful, but not lived in as some of the others have said. It also doesn't seem personal at all...it seems more like somewhere that a more classic, elegant actress would live. I love her in many ways, but somehow this home just doesn't match her at all!

  8. I agree about the aloof thing, there is not a lot of personality here, Hate the peach colored living room, sorry J Lo. However, I disagree about the blue kitchen cabinets. I love them, I think this is the only room that seems warm...and the smokey mirrored back splash seems perfect. Close up!

  9. Wow! Like you, I was shocked at the sophistication of her home. And that black table with the blue buffet ~ gorgeous!

Her home is what I'd picture her and "Eddie" living in after they got married in the movie "The Wedding Planner" :)

  10. It's very elegant and sophisticated, but doesn't have that warm, colorful vibe that JLo exudes. I was surprised it was her home.

  11. I think it's gorgeous. I am also the mother of young twins, and if someone were coming to photograph my home, I'd have to go nuts hiding highchairs, sippy cups and cheerios. I'm not surprised she showed only the "pretty parts" of the house. I promise you, with twins, it doesn't always look that good!

  12. The decor does seem a little cold. Although her husband's house in Long Island, NY had the same feel, but was a bit more homely.

Kyle, I love, love your blog, but I'm a little taken back at your comments about Jennifer Lopez. Your comments were very condescending. "Are you surprised that this is where J. Lo lives?" -- No, I'm not surprised. She's one of the wealthiest celebrities in the music/film industry.

Next time, don't judge a book by its cover. "Big mistake. BIG. HUGE!" ~ Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

  13. Anon - my comments were not intended to be condescending...I was merely pointing out that the style of her home is distinctly different from her personal style (in terms of fashion). I would never characterize her personal style as tasteful and elegant...to me, it's more bold and trendy (as a pop star's style probably should be) which is what I expected her house to look like. The house shown here looks rather lifeless and I've never seen J. Lo look lifeless.

  14. JLo always has such amazing homes. I also loved her home designed by Thom Filica. She has such a classic homely style. Very magazine worthy.
