The Real Paint Colors of the Knight House

I have a major struggle with the white balance on my camera...I can never seem to get the colors right when I'm shooting indoors. So, after many attempts at manipulating the settings, I started playing around with shooting without lights and finally started to acheive some accuracy.

Because I get so many questions about the paint colors used in my house, I thought I'd share the following photos of our den since the wall color is more accurately represented than in previous photos. I started with this room, but I'll be shooting the whole house and will post an updated paint tour soon.

As mentioned before, the color in our den and kitchen is Senora Gray 1530 by Benjamin Moore. Here's the digital swatch:

I hope this is helpful to all of you out there trying to get the "perfect gray." It's such a tricky process. Both natural and artificial light can completely change the look of wall color so be prepared to paint a few test areas. Good luck!

  1. Kyle,
this is a non-paint related question: how did you manage to hide the cords for your two blue lamps on the console table so well? I can't even figure out where the lamps are plugged in. I have a similar layout to yours and i can't seem to figure out what to do with any lamps that are not on a piece of furniture by the wall.

  2. Grays are very tricky!! I've had to change mine a few times now (much to the chagrin of my husband)! Thanks for the info; where are the two throws from??? *The one on the leather stools and the one on your sectional?? LOVE them both!

  3. Svetia, I use 3M Command Strips...they have some that attached to clear plastic mini-clips and I run them along the backs of the legs of the console. Then I tuck the cord into the clips.

  4. Kelly - The one on the sectional was purchased from the Room Service Home outlet in Dallas (before they closed it). Unfortunately, I haven't seen it elsewhere. The Greek key throw was a gift...I can ask about that one and report back!

  5. Kyle,
I forgot to mention in my previous comment that I love LOVE your blog!

So, do you have an electrical outlet under the sectional on the floor? Once you get the cords to the bottom of the console, they are still in the middle of the room, while outlets are typically around the perimeter on the walls. How come you have no wires running across and showing in any of the pictures?

    Thanks for the info!

  8. Kyle,

Another non-color related question. Where did you find the Greek key throw?

  10. Another fab color is Balanced Beige from Sherwin Williams. We've used it on every wall in our house. It's gray with a brownish undertone, not really beige at all. EVERYONE who visits our house asks about it, including the building inspector during our kitchen renovation.

  12. Hi Kyle,
May I ask about the color of the blue paint behind the shelving over the bar area? I love the pop of color it gives!

    Thanks,
    Heather
