Bed Facelift with Auto Body Paint

I just got the old wooden bed back from Again & Again and it sure does look pretty now! MAJOR improvement over the old look...it used to have a cheesy rustic/distressed finish and now it's all glossy and sleek. I chose to go with an aqua auto body paint color like I mentioned in this post. It turned out great and I love that the color plays nice with the painting on the nightstand. It was painted by my grandmother in 1934.

I'm so glad that the old bed could be revamped. It's always nice to be able to use what you already have! Here are some shots of the bed...I played around a bit with different pillows and throws. I think I like the last one best with the duvet. What about you?

Here is the bed made up with my beloved COCOCOZY throw...

Then I played with some of the pillows from the living room...

Finally, here's the duvet that I've had on the bed...

What do you think of the bed? I think it's super fun and breathes new life into the room. Thanks to Again & Again for doing such a great paint job!

New Nightstands + Bed Paint Color Selection

I picked up some snazzy nightstands for the front guest bedroom. They are lacquered black and have fab polished nickel hardware. I spotted them at Again & Again and just had to have them for myself. Here are some shots of one of them...

Since they are much more sharp and sophisticated than the old wood bed in the room, I've decided to give that a facelift with some auto body paint. I'm brainstorming colors now. First I considered mimicking the Farrow & Ball lacquer on this desk from Kimberly Ayres' office...

Might look sorta like this...

Other ideas...

Navy

Kelly Green

Yellow

Hot Pink

Any favorite colors? Keep in mind that the orange accent pillow can easily change! I thought about just doing ivory, but I want to do something bold and fun. Besides the aqua, I like the idea of doing a rich kelly green.

Also, you might have noticed that the rug is whited out. That's because I'm selling my suzani rug so that I can use a wider rug. I plan to put the suzani rug on Ebay or Craigslist soon, so email me (kylestandeferknight at gmail.com) if you're interested in purchasing it. It measures 65" x 94" and is hand-tufted wool...the price is $900 + shipping if applicable. Here it is in action...

Finally, what do you think of the nightstands? I really love them and they were a bargain. Thank goodness for Again & Again!

Again & Again Gives Back

My favorite vintage furniture shop, Again & Again, is pitching in to help two awesome charities over the next couple of weeks and I wanted you all to know about the details.

First, Again & Again is partnering with BAR 828, a charitable pop-up cocktail establishment in Oak Cliff this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Guided by its vivacious proprietress, Leslie Pritchard, the space will be transformed with vintage furnishings and lighting from A&A...all of which will be available for purchase! A portion of the proceeds from the collaboration will go to Promise House, which helps disadvantaged and runaway kids. BAR 828 closes this Saturday, October 29 so if you're in Dallas, be sure to get yourself there by then so you can drink and buy furniture for a good cause :)

Second, Again & Again is a a Partner's Card retailer, which means that from October 28 through November 6, card holders get 20% off! The cards can be purchased at A&A (or at other participating retailers) and all proceeds benefit the Family Place, an organization that assists victims of family violence.

Sorry to dangle these fun events in front of those who don't live in Dallas! To make it up to you, here is some eye candy from Again & Again. If you live outside of Big D and see something that you love, don't fret...shipping is a possibility!

Here is a settee that I snapped as it was being reupholstered...they do amazing work, right?!?

Lots o' lucite...

This is a custom Greek key stool that A&A fabricates...

I adore these chairs...I imagine the wood in an ebony finish paired with Quadrille's Rio and black cording/buttons...

Also infatuated with this sofa...

There was a set of four of these fabulous chairs...

This settee was about to get Suzani-fied...

This awesome little chest will be bananas after a paint job...

Cool screen and great little pair of x-benches...

Glam headboard, cool brass lamps, amazing sideboard, the list goes on and on...

I covet this lamp...it's so funky and unique. It kind of reminds me of Stray Dog Designs' lamps...which you might've seen on the Rachel Zoe Project recently! Stray Dog's lamps cost about $400 a piece though so this one is a MUCH better deal :)

Super-duper cool midcentury mirrors...

Finally, here is A&A's sample book area...they've stocked books from the best fabric companies like Schumacher, Quadrille, Kravet, and Duralee. Having this sort of resource in the shop makes picking the perfect fabric quick and painless!

I just love this place...it totally gets my imagination going. Are you loving their inventory as much as I do? Keep in mind that their merch changes all of the time so the best way to stay in the loop is to follow Again & Again on Facebook where new items are posted.

Top Shop: Again & Again

One of Dallas' best furniture consignment shops, Again & Again, has opened up a new location in the Dallas Design District! The HUGE 14,000 square foot space is on Howell Street, off Riverfront Boulevard, behind Lost Antiques.

I went two weekends ago and snapped some photos of their fabulous inventory (which probably has changed by now...things move in and out very quickly there).  Just like in the tiny hot pink house, their original location, the new space is stocked full of vintage furniture, lighting, and decor. Again & Again also offers upholstery and refinishing services so you'll find some top-notch fabric books and samples at the shop too.

An added bonus, owner Leslie Pritchard is nothing short of amazing...gorgeous, stylish, friendly, honest, helpful, and knowledgeable. So, you'll be in good hands with her whether you're consigning, shopping, or reupholstering something!

Here's a sampling of what you can expect to find there...

Shown here are some of their custom chair designs...

What do you think of their inventory? I'm always impressed with the wide range of styles that are represented. It's not uncommon to run across some seriously pedigreed stuff like Baker nightstands and Eames chairs, so if you're in or around Dallas, make sure that Again & Again is on your radar. I'm really excited about the new location because it'll be more convenient for me to stop in more often!

If you're not in Dallas, follow Again & Again on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with their latest inventory. Leslie is really good about posting fresh photos and I'm sure she could work with you on shipping if you see something that you can't live without!
