Online Basket Sources

The basket is the one functional accessory that can probably be found in most homes across the globe. There are countless iterations of the concept, but the idea is the same...contain and look good while doin' it. As you probably know, baskets are perfect for stashing towels, toilet paper, shoes, toys, magazines, blankets, laundry, and wrapping paper and keeping all of those things from making your house look messy. The key is to find the right style for the setting and that isn't always easy.

Baskets are totally one of those things that you see all of the time but can't find the perfect one when you're actually on the hunt. So, in case you're looking for one of these handy vessels, here's a quick list of good online sources:

And here are a few of my favorite styles from some of those sources...

Pillows for the New Year

The dawn of the new year spurs people to change things in their lives. If you're one of the many who is looking to improve your home's appearance, then consider getting some new pillows...especially if your budget is tight and the goal is to make minor changes and just freshen things up.

Textiles can make a huge impact and in living areas and bedrooms, pillows are usually a major player in the textile lineup. Changing pillows is undoubtedly one of the easiest, least binding ways to update those rooms. So, if you're considering a pillow makeover, take a look at the following relatively fresh ones...

Purple Stardust Silk and Cotton Pillow - be still homewares.
Pasha 18" Pillow - Queen of Cashmere
Leopard Pillow - Jayson Home

Geo Links Pillow - Shop Ten 25
Frizzle 16" Pillow - CB2
Rose Stripe Pure Lightweight Linen Pillow - Hable Construction

Map Pillow - My Bearded Pigeon
Cotton Collection Birdcage Toile - COCOCOZY

Vintage Scarf Pillow - Etsy
Indigo Kyoto Pillow - Serena & Lily
Schumacher Nanjing 20" Pillow - Etsy seller House of Pemberley

See any that you liked? Do you ever change up your pillow assortment? I'm ready to switch a few of mine out and I have my eye on the Kyoto Pillow from Serena & Lily!

Dotted Fabric Love

I saw a Hotel Maison sofa on Horchow, called the Parker Sofa, that reminded me how much I like a small pattern for upholstery...especially when it's a dot print. The dots are fun and mod but subtle enough to not detract from the sophistication level. On the utilitarian side, the dots are great at camouflaging spots or stains too!

The fabric on the sofa above looks like Hable Construction's signature print, Beads, but I'm not sure if it actually is. Here is the Hable Construction Beads fabric in Green Bean as seen on a fab Apartment Therapy home tour...

I absolutely adore both of Hable's dot prints, Checker and Beads, but they wouldn't work well in a formal setting. Here are more examples to give you an idea of the range of styles of dotted fabrics that are out there:

From a Domino 2007 issue, here's China Seas from Quadrille Rio (and Nairobi) in action...

So, what are your thoughts on using dots on upholstery? Love it, hate it? I think it's a great way to use pattern on a large piece of furniture without committing to a specific style or color palette. As some of the images above illustrate, dotted fabric is so versatile and can be paired with geometric, ikat, animal, and floral prints.

If you don't love the idea of covering a whole sofa or chair with dots, then consider it as an accent fabric. If that sounds appealing, check out Hable's super cute ready-made pillows. They sell them in linen, cotton, and outdoor fabric. Here's the Lemon Beads/Oyster pillow paired up with a floral and an ikat....

Pillow Source

Was sorting through my inbox and was so glad to run across Hable Construction as a fun new pillow source.

I spotted their totes/bags in Daily Candy Deals email (code DCHABLE will get you 25% off the items in the "Carry" section). The cheerful yet sophisticated prints shown in the email lured me in and it was nice to find that they had a "Decorate" section on the Hable site. In hand-printed cotton canvas and linen, their fabrics make for excellent accent pillows. Hable offers custom sizes including a euro sham option, which is awesome.

Not going to lie, the prices are a little steep. I'm guessing that their quality is exceptional and warrants the price tag, but it's hard to tell online. Speak up if any of you have reviews! Here are a few of my favorites...

I also saw these nifty hampers and bushels in the storage section....pretty cute way to stash laundry, blankets, toys, etc. A bushel would be perfect for our pool towels.

Also...sorry about the unannounced blogging hiatus! Last weekend was hectic and there weren't many spare moments during this week, so Knight Moves got neglected. Lots of little projects have been completed, so at least I've been productive and can report on the progress next week. Anyhow, despite the recent lack of posts, I hope you'll bear with me and will keep reading :)

Happy Friday!
