New from Made Goods!

One of my absolute favorite purveyors of mirrors, lighting, furniture, and objets is Made Goods. They are always coming up with inventive new designs and they're known for using amazing materials and textures in their luxe product line.

Just yesterday, Made Goods released their latest wares, and as usual, there are plenty of lustworthy items in the mix. I'm pretty obsessed with faux shagreen because it looks amazing and wears really well, and they have some stunning new colors and pieces using that. And I've long been a fan of their Interchangeables, which is a collection of table bases and an assortment of tops that can be combined to create dozens of different table designs. In the new offering, MG has added some tops and bases to make the possibilities even more endless, so yay for that! I'm also really liking their new upholstered pieces, which are available in lots o' different finishes and fabrics/leathers.

Here are my faves from the new bunch...

Cool stuff, isn't it? If you're going to the New York International Gift Fair, be sure to stop by their booth at Pier 94 42030. Otherwise, you can shop Made Goods product at Clayton Gray.

Happy weekend!

Thrive Home Furnishings

I recently came across Thrive Home Furnishings and I'm pretty curious about the quality of their goods, because they:
  1. Have good prices (sofas under $2k)
  2. Offer free shipping both ways
  3. Have a 365-day return policy and a lifetime warranty
  4. Make their furniture in the USA
  5. Provide comprehensive dimensions with drawings
  6. Send free fabric sample kits
  7. Promise a 3 week lead time!?!
Besides those perks, I really like some of their designs. The general aesthetic is mid-century-modern-esque, so a few pieces lean a bit too far in that direction for most of my projects. I especially like Thrive's sofas and sectionals, like these...
Sullivan Loveseat - $1,199 -- Tyler Sectional - $2,999 -- Nixon Sofa - $1,899

Have any of you ordered from Thrive? I need some feedback and reviews. I'm always nervous to test new sources...especially non-local ones. I'm going to order a sample kit and check out their fabrics. Stay tuned!

My Recent Blogging Activities

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! I had big plans to use some of the down time to get caught up on my blogging life, and as usual, it didn't happen. I can, however, share a few recent guest posts that I've done and a partnership that I'm just getting started with. So I suppose I've been doing some blogging lately...just not on Knight Moves!

First, my bud Meg Biram asked me to contribute on her snazzily-redesigned blog MegBiram.com, and I provided an overview of the elements of a reupholstery/refinishing plan. My goal was to help anyone looking to put a professional upholstery project into the works. I tried to lay out the general map of the decisions that need to be made so you will be prepared when the upholsterer creates the order and starts asking questions. I'm planning to write a follow-up to the post that goes into more specific options for each element.

Anyhow, I gave a little peek of the new upholstered bed I had made for the guest room in our house to illustrate how a fabric with a large pattern/design repeat looks on a large piece of upholstery (plus it has contrast cording, tape, and upholstery nail details, which I also talk about in the post). The next step in this room is to get new bed linens...

Also, on Home Depot's blog, The Apron, I was asked to participate in a Christmas Style Challenge along with some other bloggers. I was given materials from HD to decorate my front door. Keep in mind that I was given them in October so I looked like a total lunatic out on my porch decorating for Christmas before Halloween! I can only imagine what my neighbors thought when they saw me out front photographing the scene. I still haven't mustered up the spirit to get everything out again!

And finally, my favorite shopping arena in Dallas, Highland Park Village, invited me to be a part of a group of style influencers and partner up with some of their stores to style a few looks. I got paired up with Robert Talbott. As the brand primarily focuses on menswear, I'd never really shopped there before, but was thrilled to find that they have amazing cashmere sweaters and perfectly tailored button-ups. Here's one of the crazy-comfy sweaters I got to wear...

I'll be posting more on Highland Park Village and Robert Talbott, so stay tuned for those goods!

Hooray for Thibaut Fine Furniture!

Wallpaper and fabric purveyor, Thibaut, has launched a lovely line of American-made furniture. I'm excited about it because the entire line has a classic, timeless aesthetic and from what I've read about the construction, the quality is top-notch. I also like that each piece can be customized in countless ways, so the sky is the limit in terms of style direction and color palette. Finally, Thibaut promises fast delivery. It's rare to see a 3-4 week lead time with custom furniture, so that's definitely a plus.

Thibaut Fine Furniture's offering includes headboards  and a wide variety of seating options. I love pretty much every ottoman/bench that they make, including this little stunner, called Preston (it's also available in a bench size):

And their collection of chairs is chock full of iconic styles. Here are some of my favorites:

And finally, I LOVE every single Thibaut dining chair...here they are in all their glory:

They also have some beautiful sofa options. The Kendall style is my top pick:

I'm pretty thrilled to have Thibaut as a source for furniture now. Despite the higher cost, it's always best to buy furniture that will last a lifetime and these goods seem to fall into that category. Thibaut wallpaper and fabric is represented at the Hickory Chair showroom here in Dallas and I'm so hoping that they will stock Thibaut's furniture so that I can see it. Will keep you posted on that!

Galbraith & Paul's Tantalizing Textiles

There are lots of things that I get excited about and fabric most certainly falls on that list, which is why I'm talking about it two posts in a row! Today, I wanted to share another outstanding American textile source, Galbraith & Paul. They create hand block-printed textiles, handmade rugs, studio printed wallpaper, and lighting (which is sold at Room & Board along with their pillows).  Founders Liz Galbraith and Ephraim Paul have built a business based on craftsmanship, quality, and creativity and I love that they've seen 26 years of success as a result of that culture.

G&P has recently released new sets of fabric and wallpaper patterns and they are insanely beautiful. I'll be stopping by David Sutherland (the Dallas showroom that reps the line) ASAP to check out the new goodies in person. Until then, I was happy to plow through images on the Galbraith & Paul site. Here is a sampling of what you'll find there:

Midnight Pomegranate on White Linen, Midnight Ribbon on White Linen, Denim Monarch on White Linen, Denim Lotus on White Linen

Lotus fabric - Light Flax on Cream Linen, Light Cadet on Upholstery Linen, Rhubarb on Cream Linen, Sprout on White Linen, Denim on White Linen, Mineral on Cream Linen

Light Cadet Lotus, Light Indigo Pomegranate, Cadet Ribbon on Upholstery Linen

Sprout Monarch on White Linen, Icicle Ribbon on White Linen, Sprout Lotus on White Linen, Willow Pomegranate on White Linen, Mineral Monarch on Cream Linen

Pomegranate in Currant

Monarch

And now onto the glorious wallpaper offering...

Aqua Lotus wallpaper

Smokebush wallpaper in Stone

Tile wallpaper in Kiwi. Also shown: Midnight Diamonds on Upholstery Linen

Tulip wallpaper in Frost

And to show off at least one of the G&P prints that aren't in the new collection, here is Small Star which looks fantastic on these vintage chairs. These were done by Stella Dallas, one of the best shops in Big D...

Navy Small Star

As a small-scale print, Small Star complements lots of patterns with larger repeats as shown here...

Finally, I wanted to offer a glimpse of the printing process. Lots of people balk at the high cost of quality fabric and hopefully this will help explain the price point. Here is a shot of the gorgeous Lotus fabric in production...

What are your thoughts on Galbraith & Paul's creations? To me, their style is really versatile and could be used in a casual or formal setting. Besides loving their patterns and colors, I also appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship behind all of their products. That's pretty hard to come by these days!

Cisco Home

Another one of my shopping stops in LA was the Cisco Home store in Brentwood. The place has a really comfortable, laid-back vibe...as you can see here, it's easy to picture yourself kicking back on the sofa with a book. I loved the cluster of Jug Lamps...

The store is right by the Hillary Thomas Designs' Chic Shop. It was great to pop in because I've long been a fan of their furniture, but only get to see bits and pieces of their inventory in Dallas. Besides sitting on and seeing/touching the furniture, they have wonderful fabric options and it's nice to be able to look at all of those in person. I was checking out some of their linen options in ivory and black for a chaise lounge I'm looking to order for myself.

I fell in love with this Crescent Chair too. It was so comfy and the scale was perfect for so many places...

Cisco is known for their high-quality handmade, eco-friendly furniture. The company was started by Cisco Pinedo, who designs the furniture and runs the business with a focus on craftsmanship and sustainability. Cisco's goods are made in the US and they sell through Cisco Home stores, HD Buttercup, and ABC Home. Other retailers, like Mecox, used to carry the line too and I assume that still goes on but Cisco doesn't provide any kind of a list to share.

If you're in the market for well-made case goods or upholstered pieces, be sure to take a look at Cisco. They have beautifully designed pieces and since they make everything in LA, lots of things can be customized to fit your needs. The line is very diverse and you'll find things that evoke a casual, relaxed aesthetic as well pieces that are more tailored and buttoned up. Here are some of my favorites...

And last but not least, the Field Bench. This is my Jake Ryan in Furnitureland...I have coveted the Field Bench for years and now they are making an iteration with a back, which totally throws me over the edge. I'm deperately trying to figure out a way to fit one of these into my world...

This is a good photo of my beloved benches that was featured in Apartment Therapy's post on Cisco from last year...

What do you think of Cisco Home's furniture? Do you own any? I don't have any in my house (yet) so I haven't personally field-tested the quality yet and would love to hear any feedback.

H&H Strikes Again!

H&H is having another Tastemaker Tag Sale on One Kings Lane this Thursday, so mark your calendars! The sale will begin on December 1st at 6pm PT/ 9 pm EST. You don't want to miss out on the chance to buy fun stuff like this...

I am really dying over that tole pineapple chandelier...it's so stinkin' cute. Until Thursday comes around, you can further whet your palette for H&H's big sale by cruising their inventory. These chairs, which are covered with Les Touches, one of my favorite Brunschwig & Fils prints, are among the fabulous array of beautiful things you'll find there.

Furniture Fountain of Youth: Wild Chairy

I have another talented gal to add to my list of refinishing wizards...her name is Andrea Mihalik and she is the creative force behind Wild Chairy Studio. Using old world upholstery techniques and premium materials like Italian twine, horse hair, and organic cotton, Andrea revitalizes and restyles salvaged vintage furniture. Wild Chairy's inventive creations are exciting and inspiring and are sure to make a bold statement in any space. You can shop WC's current inventory on Etsy. If you're looking to give a facelift to a piece that you already own, then browse their portfolio for ideas. Here is a sampling...

Reading List: Co-Lab.

If you are a fabric/upholstery junkie like I am, you've got to check out Co-Lab. It's a fab new magalogue that has tons of gorgeous images and a minimal amount of copy (how an e-pub should be, in my opinion). Co-Lab. was created by Chairloom's Molly Andrews and Super Rural's Tracey Jenkins...they teamed up with photographer Rachel McGinn to make the magic happen. Together they all created a really inspiring and informative publication. Seriously, if you're planning to recover anything, go to Co-Lab. before you make any moves. There is lots 'o fodder for the imagination and they've assembled an awesome selection of fabrics.

To entice you to scoot on over to Co-Lab., here is a taste of the fabulous imagery you'll find...

Studio Bon, Hable Construction, vintage furniture, X-benches, gorgeous photography, buyables...what's not to love?!? After you flipped through Co-Lab. come back here and tell me about what you liked best about the magalogue. Besides the awesome furniture, I loved the fabric collages they put together...such a great resource.

And be sure to follow Co_Lab. on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest so that you can keep up with their latest!

Sustainable Source: Canvas

I was happy to stumble upon Canvas, an eco-chic retailer that carries unique ceramics, accessories, textiles, and furniture. The cool, dreamy colors used throughout their website instantly drew me in and before I knew it, I had canvased the whole site (pardon the pun). All of their goods are created by artisans and craftsmen and are curated with the intention of creating a "collection that represents simple, sustainable style."

Sometimes green decor can be a little too raw and earthy for my taste, but Canvas does a good job of keeping the overall style relatively polished. I suppose since their store is located in New York, the aesthetic can't get too granola. While cruising, I ran across a few things that are quite noteworthy...I particularly liked items from their furniture and upholstery sections:

I L-O-V-E this chair...I even dig the blue velvet!

These are simple yet sophisticated...also priced pretty well.

I love the idea of a long, narrow coffee table between two sofas...this one would be perfect for that.

I really like the chandelier, but unfortunately that wasn't on their website!
