OKL Vintage & Market Finds

I will never tire of looking at vintage goodies and antiques on the internet...I've confessed before that I can spend hours trolling 1stDibs, V&M, and Etsy. Well, I can now add One Kings Lane's Vintage & Market Finds to that list. My beloved OKL has introduced this amazing new marketplace that is full of antique and vintage art, books, furniture, textiles, accessories, lighting, floor coverings, and tabletop merchandise that is sourced from top dealers across the country. Here are a few of my picks from the current inventory:

Unlike OKL's rotating 72-hour-long Tastemaker Tag Sales, Vintage & Market Finds is perpetually open and updated with new inventory daily. Like my other fav sites, you can hone in on individual dealers...I quickly pegged Modlife, Inc. as a winner. You can also shop by category which is extremely helpful for me since I'm usually hunting down specific items. My only complaint is that the inventory is not searchable, but hey, I suppose the hunt is part of the fun.

Despite the lack of search-ability, I'm super excited about this new venture and be shopping Vintage & Market Finds often. To inspire you to do the same, here are some yummy photos that OKL sent that showcase the sorts of items you'll find on VMF and the aesthetic that can be created with them...

Now you're probably all amped up to shop Vintage & Market Finds thanks to those cool photos from OKL. Although they don't sell it, I'm obsessing over the paint color in the bookcase in the first shot and I desperately want the vintage glasses with the triangle design in the pic above (also not buyable). It'll be hard to get those out of my head!

The Art of Caroline Wright on OKL

Today One King's Lane's A Day of Art begins and I'm particularly excited to see that works by Caroline Wright are included in the Emerging Artists offering. I've been a fan of this talented young artist's paintings for some time now and it's wonderful to see that her amazing work is being showcased to OKL's nearly 4 million members.

For the event, reproductions of the artists' original work are being sold. Truth be told, I'm much more of a proponent of buying original works, however, we all have budgets and it's difficult to find good original art that costs less than $300 (which is the price point of the prints).

Of Wright's work that's included in the sale, I particularly like Summer Shadows which is available as a print through OKL and the original can be purchased directly through Caroline. The original is acrylic on paper, and the piece is a continuation of her Migration series, which are seasonal pieces that capture natural rhythms and movement elapsing over time.

Summer Shadows by Caroline Wright

I was also happy to see Crepuscule with Nellie, which is a favorite piece of mine. It's from her Lines Ballet series. I used it in this bedroom design board last year...

Caroline maintains a great website and I urge you to go there and explore. She posts large, clear, well-organized images of her current and past work and you can really get a sense of her process and point of view by clicking through the oeuvre. Her portfolio is extraordinarily diverse and each piece deserves attention so grab some coffee or a glass of wine before you start trolling through.

Under the Current work category, I'm really loving all of the Accident and Incident series including the following:
Fragments for Sappho, by Caroline Wright, 2011 - acrylic, gesso on rice paper 39×72″

Tropicalia by Caroline Wright, 2011 - acrylic on rice paper, 39x72"

This beauty is from the playful and exuberant Under the Canopy series...
Folds of Twilight by Caroline Wright,  2011 - acrylic, ink, and graphite on rice paper, mounted on canvas, 48x72"

In the Archive, there are countless gems but Tunnel of Childhood no. 1 as shown below really grabbed my attention...

And many works from The Drip and the Line series go to the top of my list, including this one:

Martine Chaisson Gallery in New Orleans represents some of Caroline's work so be sure to stop by if you're ever in that area. It's a gorgeous gallery and they've curated quite a nice collection of art. I'm swooning over their ballroom which is available for private events...
3rd floor ballroom at the Martine Chaisson Gallery

3rd floor ballroom at the Martine Chaisson Gallery

They have Carnival, which is yet another favorite...

So, tell me what you think of Caroline Wright's artwork. I'm pretty transfixed by all that she creates and judging from her bio, she's a really interesting person and a committed artist. I hope to meet her and see her artwork in person sometime soon!

Have you shopped and of the One King's Lane's A Day of Art sales yet? I obviously perused the Emerging Artists set and I need to go shop the others now. If you're on OKL now or later, be sure to take a look at the Design-Blogger Tastemaker Tag Sale that I'm participating in. It goes on through Saturday and there are still plenty of good things up for grabs.

One Kings Lane Design-Blogger Tastemaker Tag Sale - Tonight!

I'm excited to announce that One Kings Lane is hosting a Design-Blogger Tag Sale tonight and I was invited to participate! My goodies, along with those of amazing bloggers like Nicole Gibbons of So Haute, will be peddled off beginning at 6 pm PT / 9pm ET. So set a little reminder alarm now to make sure you'll get first pick! The sale will have a wide array of buyables...everything from rugs and lighting to pillows and artwork will be up for grabs.

To give you a tiny taste of what you'll find, here are two of my items that will be featured in the sale. The first is the black cut glass hurricane holding the peonies (there's actually a pair of those) and the other is the amazing lacquered turned wood table with a Calacatta marble top. My hoarding tendencies are flaring up at the thought of selling either item because I really love them both...

Anyhow, I'm thrilled to be included and can't wait for the sale to get going...hope you'll shop away!

High Class Camping

Did any of you see that the pimped out Airstream previously featured in the New York Times is up for grabs on Rachel Horn's One King's Lane Tastemaker Tag Sale? It's pretty amazing...the 1969 Nomadic Luxe Airstream Overlander International trailer has been totally restored and remodeled with Ã¼ber luxe fabrics, fittings, and finishes. The interiors have a swanky, rustic chic vibe and I would say that the "modern Moroccan nomad" theme was executed beautifully. Looks like fun, doesn't it?

When I looked at it, the $70k Airstream was in someone's cart (sounds hilarious that you can put something like that in an online shopping "cart") but maybe they didn't go through with the purchase and you can buy it and tour America in style :)

H&H Strikes Again!

H&H is having another Tastemaker Tag Sale on One Kings Lane this Thursday, so mark your calendars! The sale will begin on December 1st at 6pm PT/ 9 pm EST. You don't want to miss out on the chance to buy fun stuff like this...

I am really dying over that tole pineapple chandelier...it's so stinkin' cute. Until Thursday comes around, you can further whet your palette for H&H's big sale by cruising their inventory. These chairs, which are covered with Les Touches, one of my favorite Brunschwig & Fils prints, are among the fabulous array of beautiful things you'll find there.

Sale Site Roundup

Around 11am on most weekdays (when time permits), I do a quick browse of a few daily sale sites. Some are definitely better than others but I've learned that you never know what brands will end up where, so it's worth keeping tabs on all of them. Here's a sampling of the kinds of things I've seen on the sales sites lately...

Bungalow 5 table - My Habit
C.G. Sparks Milk Glass Pendant with Cage - The Foundary
Jeffan Madeleine Side Chair - Haute Look
Modern Alchemy Water Lily Candle - Rue La La
Sunpan Modern Mystique Chair in Lemoncello - Joss & Main
Global Bazaar Gridlock Pillow - Joss & Main
George Smith Somerville Sofa - One Kings Lane
Horizon Rugs Bombay Hand-Tufted Rug - Gilt Home
Pure Fiber Ayrika Classic Fouta Towel - Gilt Home
Cenedese Small Vase - Gilt Home

I only cruise the decor/home-specific sales, so that portion of each site's business is the determining factor in my ranking. Here are the ones that I regularly shop, in order of preference:
  1. One Kings Lane - to me, OKL is by far the best in class. Most of you are probably familiar with OKL. They are a great source for everything from linens to furniture...they have multiple sales per day and the variety will keep you on your toes. Besides hosting sales for luxe brands like Baker, Waterworks, and Madeline Weinrib, OKL also hosts tons of Tastemaker Tag Sales during which renowned designers and dealers sell their unique finds and bespoke pieces. I've purchased a number of things from OKL and have been very happy with the shipping time and packaging. Plus, after having to return one item, I found that their customer service is second to none.
  2. Gilt Groupe - Gilt is another staple and has recently relaunched the decor facet of their empire which is simply called Gilt Home. While they added lots of extras like designer profiles and a consistent inventory of home furnishings, I don't love the redesign. I'm mainly interested in the "Flash Sales" and I feel like the quality of those isn't as good as it used to be. They do lots of themed sales, as in they'll do a bedroom sale in which multiple brands (that make anything related to the bedroom) are included. I'm not a big fan of these amalgam sales...I prefer the more focused, brand-centric ones.
  3. My Habit - this is a relatively new site and I've been impressed with some of the sales they've had since I signed up. For instance, Bungalow 5 was on there yesterday. The only downside is that the quantity of items in each sale is relatively small.
  4. The Foundary - I've bought an Arzu rug, a glass lamp, a kantha from the Foundary so I can vouch for the fact that they can have good stuff, but don't set your expectations too high.
  5. Joss & Main - They have a wide variety of brands, items, and price points, but the offering is almost too schizophrenic. For instance, they'll have a nice piece of furniture in the same sale as a cheesy piece of "wall art." I wish they wouldn't do that because it degrades to perceived value of the good stuff and everything ends up looking cheap.
  6. Haute Look - mixed bag in terms of quality of sales...very hit or miss.
  7. Rednook - is another newcomer and so far I'm not super impressed. Hopefully they'll get some better brands.
  8. Rue La La - meh. Don't often see anything impressive on here but do keep about seven "boutiques" running at a time, so there's always a chance that one of those is worth checking out.
  9. Ideeli - another meh. Their home section is obviously not a high priority and ends up being a catch-all...for example, today luggage and toys are featured sales in that section.
Do you shop at any of the above sites regularly? If so, what have you purchased? Do you have any favorite sale sites? Any that aren't on my list?

Pink Lamps for the Cure from Mottega

As most of you know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness monthMottega is one of the many companies that has joined the fight against this terrible disease and is helping to find a cure by donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of special edition pink products. They have released the Hope Collection which includes two pretty pink lamps that sell for $99 per piece.  Mottega will contribute 10% of Hope Collection and Petal Pink collection sales to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, with a minimum donation of $25,000 in 2011. Thanks Mottega!

In case you're having a hard time imagining pink lamps in your home, here's a board to show you how they might look in a bedroom. For me, the key to using pink is balancing it with some masculine elements and darker colors to counteract the girly effect that it can have. In this space, the Camille gourd lamps are used with lots of grays and blues.

Camille Lamp - Mottega - $99 *10% will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
Antique Tiled Floor Mirrors - West Elm - $359
Azure Headboard - Horchow - $3,200 *Save 25% today with code PUMPKIN
Bungalow 5 Jacqui Three Drawer Side Table - Layla Grayce - $819 *Save 20% until Sunday with code lg7years
Frette Eliza Throw - Saks Fifth Avenue - $395
Nikolette Pillowtop Bench, Pinstripe - One Kings Lane - $289
Asher Rug, Gray/Turquoise - One Kings Lane - $699

What do you think of the board? And what are your thoughts on Mottega's Hope Collection? Would you use either of the pink lamps in your house?

And by the way, did you notice that those euro shams are from the Jennifer Lopez collection for Kohl's?!? I'm curious enough about the quality to go see them in person...luckily there's a Kohl's near the Target that I go to. Have any of you seen J Lo's bedding?

In2Green Blankets

A while back I became fixated on this Greek key blanket that I saw on Taigan. Much to my dismay, the seller couldn't fulfill my order because they had already sold out. The product listing didn't name the manufacturer so I couldn't go and find it at another retailer. I begrudgingly gave up on the purchase.

Well, today One Kings Lane is having an Eco Chic sale and "my" blanket is among the items for sale! Of course, the one I like best sold out before I could get my hands on it (plus it wasn't the color I needed) but, the silver lining is that I discovered who makes it. The company is called In2Green and besides the fact that they produce environmentally responsible goods, they produce many (if not all) of them right here in the USA. Their blankets come in all kinds of fun colors and patterns and best of all, they are machine wash and dry...hallelujah! Here are some of the ones on the OKL sale...

Here are some of my favorite styles from the In2Green site...
Eco Zig Zag Strie
Eco Ikat
Eco Zig Zag
Eco Plaid
Eco Indian
Eco Morocco

Finally, In2Green has some really cute (and inexpensive at only $40 each) pillows in the ZigZag Strie pattern...

So if you're loving the blankets as much as I do, run over to One Kings Lane and get one before they are all gone! If you miss them there or want a style that isn't included in their sale, just hit up the In2Green site and purchase there.

Happy weekend!

A Day in Tony Duquette's World

Last Sunday I was privileged to be included in a glorious day at Tony Duquette's historic Dawnridge estate. Hosted by the dapper and convivial Hutton Wilkinson along with the warm and gracious Ronda Carman, a luncheon was held in honor of SFERRA's 120th Anniversary. I'm a huge fan of SFERRA linens (I have them on every bed in our house now), so I was more than happy to toast to the venerable company's many years of success. The guest list was full of amazingly talented people and the setting could not have been more ideal for the group. It was such a special gathering and feel very lucky to have been a part of it.

For those who aren't familiar with him, Tony Duquette is legendary for being a preeminent American interior designer, sculptor, and jewelry designer. His name lives on through his partnership with Hutton Wilkinson who now serves as the owner, creative director, and president of Tony Duquette, Inc. Under Hutton's brilliant guidance, the company produces exquisite fine jewelry, home furnishings for Baker, textiles for Jim Thompson, as well as decor and tabletop accessories under the Tony Duquette trademark. To learn more about Tony and the evolution of his art and business, be sure to get the following books: More Is More: Tony Duquette and Tony Duquette. Thanks to Hutton, the books are beautiful and together they offer a more complete glimpse into the late designer's world.

Finally, be sure to log in for One Kings Lane's Tony Duquette Tastemaker Tag Sale tomorrow, March 5 beginning at 8am PT. Until then, take a look at the "Meet Our Tastemakers" slideshow on the OKL site...it shows some great snapshots of Tony and his work!

I LOVE this doorway and rug. The curtains were created with a fabric that Hutton designed. I believe it was called Ermine...whatever it's called, it's stunning.

This was taken with my iPhone...which explains the bad quality!

Absolutely amazing place isn't it? I wish there were more shots of the exterior. The grounds are breathtaking...I literally felt like I was in some exotic locale. Like I said before, the luncheon was a truly memorable experience and I'm so thankful to Ronda and Hutton for being such wonderful hosts.

Lastly, be sure to tune into the One Kings Lane's Tony Duquette Tastemaker Tag Sale tomorrow, March 5 starting at 8am PT!
