Hooray for Thibaut Fine Furniture!

Wallpaper and fabric purveyor, Thibaut, has launched a lovely line of American-made furniture. I'm excited about it because the entire line has a classic, timeless aesthetic and from what I've read about the construction, the quality is top-notch. I also like that each piece can be customized in countless ways, so the sky is the limit in terms of style direction and color palette. Finally, Thibaut promises fast delivery. It's rare to see a 3-4 week lead time with custom furniture, so that's definitely a plus.

Thibaut Fine Furniture's offering includes headboards  and a wide variety of seating options. I love pretty much every ottoman/bench that they make, including this little stunner, called Preston (it's also available in a bench size):

And their collection of chairs is chock full of iconic styles. Here are some of my favorites:

And finally, I LOVE every single Thibaut dining chair...here they are in all their glory:

They also have some beautiful sofa options. The Kendall style is my top pick:

I'm pretty thrilled to have Thibaut as a source for furniture now. Despite the higher cost, it's always best to buy furniture that will last a lifetime and these goods seem to fall into that category. Thibaut wallpaper and fabric is represented at the Hickory Chair showroom here in Dallas and I'm so hoping that they will stock Thibaut's furniture so that I can see it. Will keep you posted on that!

New Colors from Dunes and Duchess

Dunes and Duchess, one of my favorite purveyors of handmade lighting and furniture, added two AMAZING, bold new colors to their lineup - Cap Ferrat Bleu and No Scurvy Lemon. Both hues were custom mixed and are so fresh and unique...which is not surprising because the entire D&D collection is the epitome of fresh and unique. Here's a sampling of their wondrous creations...

I'm quite inspired by the new super saturated colors and my wheels have been turning about how I can incorporate some Dunes and Duchess pieces into current projects. Their product line is diverse and the overall style is super versatile, so I'm sure a plan will come to fruition. And aside from real projects, it's always fun to play make believe and design mood boards that completely revolve around knock-out pieces like the D&D Single Spindle Candelabra Lamp in Cap Ferrat Bleu and the Solid Top Champagne Table in No Scurvy Lemon...

Long live Cap Ferrat Bleu and No Scurvy Lemon! The colors are so fun and they perfectly complement the classical, hand-turned Dunes and Duchess aesthetic. What are your thoughts?

If you got to pick any D&D piece in any color, what would you choose? I'm crazy about the entire collection so it's tough to narrow it down, but I would die for the Chappy Dining Table in the Cap Ferrat Bleu! Here is the shapely beauty in black...

And if you don't already know, Dunes and Duchess is a wonderful American company that produces all of its products in the US. It is owned by stylist Stacy Kunstel and photographer Michael Partenio, two of the nicest, most talented, fun, and stylish people that I know. The dynamic duo combined their broad skill set and let creativity and craftsmanship lead the way...and now we have Dunes and Duchess! Because I adore the owners, their business ethos, and their gorgeous creations, I'm a MAJOR fan of D&D (and surely you've caught onto that by now).

If you're gaga over Dunes and Duchess too and are looking to buy, you can find their merch at selected retailers including Hudson and Barney's, online via All the Best on Dering Hall, or you can contact D&D directly. And be sure to keep up with their latest on TwitterFacebook, and Pinterest too!

Layla Grayce Custom Furniture

I just found out that one of my favorite online sources, Layla Grayce, is now producing its own line of American-made furniture. With a focus on comfortable, classic pieces that can be customized through a huge variety of fabric options (or COM), the line is sure to be a success. Many of the styles were familiar which leaves me curious about which manufacturer they are using. In any case, I'm excited about the line because a) I love furniture that's made in the USA, b) the price points are good, and c) the overall style is timeless and transitional. Here is a sampling of what is available:

Chair Fetish

I'm officially adding another chair to my Hall of Fame today! It's called the Masquerade Tufted Chair and is made by by Century Furniture. The ones below are pimped out with magenta fabric and a contrasting welt and buttons in orange. It's a subtle, but oh-so-fun detail. If you're ever having something upholstered, be sure to consider doing something interesting with those elements.

Of course, I love the tufting and nailheads, but most of all I love the shape the chair. With its playful lines, the lovely chair is traditional and modern at the same time. Do you love it too?

Could you ever have pink chairs in your home? I probably wouldn't ever choose pink for my house...if I was going bold, I'd probably pick orange!

The Best of the Web: Room & Board

I spend lots of time prowling furniture and decor sites and I definitely have to give props to Room & Board for being one of the best (their brick-and-mortar stores are fabulous too). Anyhow, the Room & Board site is very clean, the navigation is intuitive, and the product images are fantastic. I love that clear photos are available on a large scale and that the different finish/fabric/material choices can be viewed accurately and quickly (many sites do this, but few do it well). I also appreciate how Room & Board usually displays the item in at least one room scene, which makes visualizing the size and scale much easier.

To those unfamiliar with the company, their product line is fairly modern...much of their merchandise emits a polished, mid-century vibe. In fact, they have a whole section called Modern Classics that is filled with iconic pieces from famed designers like Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, and Hans Wegner. To give you an idea of the style of their merchandise, here is a small sampling of some of their newly released items...

I'm LOVING this gray finish

This console has a similar look to the petrified wood console behind the sofa in our den. The top is available in a wide range of materials...I obviously like the white Venatino marble best.

I think a hidden swivel base is a great idea for chairs to be used in room with a TV. I hate it when all of the furniture faces the television, so this allows the chair to be part of a proper conversation area (while also being conducive to TV watching).

This is not one of their new items, but for some odd reason I just like it!

This is also not new to Room & Board, but I wanted to throw it into the mix because it's representative of the Modern Classics they carry (and it's really cool).

A final thing that I love about Room & Board is that most of their merchandise is made in the USA (of course, the chair above is made in Denmark). In any case, I've grown very tired of seeing "made in China" and I think it's important to recognize the retailers who stock their stores with American-made goods.

What do you think of Room & Board? Have any of you ordered things from there?

Chair Hall of Fame

I've spent lots of time shopping for chairs lately...mostly for other people, but it's hard to avoid picking favorites of my own, even if they don't fit into the project at hand. I can't help but obsess over some of them. Honestly, if I had tons of money, I'd probably become a chair hoarder!

Anyhow, seeing as there are so many fabulous chairs out there, I started tracking my favorites and now keep a file of "Top Chairs."  The file has gotten pretty full and I wanted to start sharing my picks before the list becomes unmanageable. Right now, just over 30 beauties have made the cut, so I'll dose it out to you in three installments. Enjoy!

1) Woodson & Rummerfield™ Beverlywood Chair
2) Plantation Design King Chair
3) High Fashion Home Wendy Chair
4) Pieces Tufted Arm Chair (sold as pair)
5) Z Gallerie Oscar Chair and 1/2
6) Williams-Sonoma Home Grayson Chair
7) Windsor Smith Directoire Chair
8) Williams-Sonoma Home Chelsea Wing Chair
9) High Fashion Home Roman Chair
10) Windsor Smith Samantha Scroll Arm Chair

If someone were to give me two from these ten (without any budget restrictions, of course) then I'd have to go with #1 and #7. Do you like any of the above?

Here is more #7 Directoire Chair action...I don't usually like leather chairs, but there's something about this one that gets me. The style is perfectly balanced between being masculine and feminine.
