Online Basket Sources

The basket is the one functional accessory that can probably be found in most homes across the globe. There are countless iterations of the concept, but the idea is the same...contain and look good while doin' it. As you probably know, baskets are perfect for stashing towels, toilet paper, shoes, toys, magazines, blankets, laundry, and wrapping paper and keeping all of those things from making your house look messy. The key is to find the right style for the setting and that isn't always easy.

Unsaturated + Saturated Living Room Board

It's been a while since I posted a design board, so I decided to create one that shows a living room scheme. I started with a fabulous smoky coal gray sofa from Jayson Home and a few bold pieces of art by Susie Reiss that I saw on Artsicle (another gallery that offers a rental option like Rise Art). Well, what do you think? Do you like the color mix? There is a lot of pink and red and I'm really liking how those shades look with the greys. Do you have any favorite items? I love the wild lime chair with the retro fabric...the shape is amazing. Unfortunately, it's part of a pair that is pretty pricey. On the unsaturated side, I really like the vintage aerial photograph. Because of the rural landscape, as first glance it looks like abstract art.

Fireplace Screens

I've gotten lots of emails and comments about where our fireplace screen was purchased. Unfortunately, it was a one-off vintage find on Ebay so I can't point straight to the source.

The other unfortunate thing is that there aren't tons of stylish fireplace screens out there. I looked all over the place and found a select few that I think are pretty neat looking. Keep in mind that you can paint them if you want. I'm guessing that using a high-heat spray paint would be the best option. Anyhow, here are my picks:

Dining Chair Round-up

I've been on the prowl for a set of dining chairs for a kitchen remodel project I'm working on. The chairs will be used in the breakfast area and need to be comfortable, stylish, and durable/cleanable. It's a tough trifecta to hit! NYC Apartment

One of my best friends just moved into a new apartment in New York and needs to jazz up her bedroom. She bought some blue curtains at Crate and Barrel and has a white comforter and dark brown furniture. Luckily, the room is a blank slate so she has plenty of freedom in choosing accent colors. The downside to that situation is that the possibilities can seem endless, which is quite overwhelming.

It helps to find at least one item with color that you absolutely love. Starting with a key accessory like a lamp, a pillow, a throw, or rug makes the rest of the process easy because you have a palette/style to work with. To help her in the decision-making process, I've given some examples of how the blue curtains can be used as a jumping-off point for many different palettes, through a variety of accessories. I tried to use well-priced items that she can easily get in the city or order from the internet. Hopefully, something will catch her eye and we can build the room out from there.

Please wheel that cart full of booze over here

Why go get a drink when the drinks can come to you? I guess that attitude is why bar carts have been all the rage lately. Most of what I've seen in the blogosphere has focused on the bar styling and not on where you can actually buy a cart. So, I'm here to get down to business and help you mobilize your libations!
