Rose Colored Glasses - Pink Is Everywhere!

Have you noticed how pink is incredibly ubiquitous these days? Besides seeing it in fashion throughout the spring and summer, I've definitely been noticing it popping up in every facet of home decor over the past year. I'm usually keen on keeping my interiors gender-neutral so I don't suggest using too much pink in any room, however, pink is a fantastic accent color. It brings vitality and playfulness to a space and it complements a wide variety of colors. I probably like it best with blues, as illustrated below by the Nate Berkus rose gold lamp with the navy shade and the Quadrille Tree Peony fabric.

1) Antique Pink Armchair - Jayson Home and Garden
2) Flamingo Greek Key Bolster Pillow - Furbish Studio
3) Pink Florence Chandelier - Layla Grayce
4) Rio, acrylic on canvas, by Michelle Armas
6) Kikoy Towel - Calypso Home
10) Anatolian Rug - ABC Carpet

What are your thoughts about the pink trend? Does anything from the above lineup suit your fancy?

On the Hunt for Josef Frank Substitutes

A friend of mine is wanting to have some curtains and pillows made for his sunroom. He loves Josef Frank fabrics, but like most of us, $300 per yard isn't a palatable price point. I've been looking for some cheaper alternatives and haven't come up with many good options.

Here's the real deal...absolutely gorgeous!

I think that he could get a similar affect from either Celerie Kemble's Hot House or Chiang Mai Dragon, which are both by Schumacher. They are a little less fun and whimsical, but still offer lots of color and energy. Unfortunately, they are pretty pricey per yard too.

Pillows could be purchased from Etsy and it's possible that an Etsy seller could make the curtains too.

By the way, I'm LOVING the new mocha colorway and I desperately want to find a place for this lumbar pillow...I'm thinking it will go in the large guest room.

Pottery Barn had a fabric called Serafina that would've worked pretty well. I created a fun mood board around it for Nate Berkus Day a while back. It's such a fun, colorful print but sadly, it's no longer available.

Alternative options that are not quite cutting it...

FREDRIKA Fabric

MAJKEN Fabric

Do you have any sources for Josef Frank-esque fabric? If so, please send them my way! Since there seems to be a dearth of options, I might try to design my own on Spoonflower :)

Covered Patio Update

A few things around the house changed over the weekend, including the covered patio in our backyard. For starters, I took down the ugly fan and hung a new light. Although my heart was set on Circa's Hicks Pendant, my budget was more in line with the 20" Foto Pendant Lamp from IKEA. It was only $30 and I'm really happy with the way it looks.

Also, the new cushions for the sofa arrived. I got them from Ballard Designs and I'm happy to report that the quality is great...they are super comfy too. I love the white cording and think the black will look much better than paw-print-covered ivory :)

Finally, I got the cute little palm tree for the corner. I thought the area could use a little more green. Hopefully I can keep it alive!

As usual, the to-do list for the space is ongoing. Besides getting an old chalkboard for the wall behind the sofa, I still want to install a beadboard ceiling and paint it blue. I found this tutorial, so my husband and I might attempt the project on our own. I'm also considering an outdoor rug...what do you think?

Mood Board Monday - Rainy Day Bedroom

Pewter & Sage is hosting another Mood Board Monday...this time, the theme is "beautiful bedding." Specifically, we were given a few different bedding options to choose from, then we were to create a bedroom around our choice.

I LOVE bed linens so I was pumped about this one! I even did two moodboards...the first was for Nate Berkus day :) They are so different from each other...one is super colorful and this one is much more neutral. Do you have a favorite between the two?

NYC Apartment

One of my best friends just moved into a new apartment in New York and needs to jazz up her bedroom. She bought some blue curtains at Crate and Barrel and has a white comforter and dark brown furniture. Luckily, the room is a blank slate so she has plenty of freedom in choosing accent colors. The downside to that situation is that the possibilities can seem endless, which is quite overwhelming.

It helps to find at least one item with color that you absolutely love. Starting with a key accessory like a lamp, a pillow, a throw, or rug makes the rest of the process easy because you have a palette/style to work with. To help her in the decision-making process, I've given some examples of how the blue curtains can be used as a jumping-off point for many different palettes, through a variety of accessories. I tried to use well-priced items that she can easily get in the city or order from the internet. Hopefully, something will catch her eye and we can build the room out from there.

Painting - Etsy - $70
Pillow - IKEA - $10
Blue Pillow - Etsy - $45

Ikat Pillow - Etsy -  $35
Sunbird Pillow Cases - Anthropologie - $48

Pillow pair - Etsy - $185
Orange embroidered pillow - Z Gallerie
Blue rug - Urban Outfitters - $48

Rugs - Anthropologie
Labyrinth Pillow - Z Gallerie - $50

Sunshine Medallion Shams - Urban Outfitters - $30
Flower/Leaf pillow - Etsy - $30

Flower pillow - Etsy - $35
Blue leaves pillow - Etsy - $30 for pair
Flower pillow - Crate and Barrel - $35

This Multicolor Rug from IKEA would work with many of the pillows above and it's only $20!

Rugs from above...
Striped - IKEA - $13

Colorblock - IKEA - $18

I'd love to hear everyone's favorites...whether it's a whole set or just a particular item or color palette! Also, if you have other ideas and suggestions, send them my way :)

Always in the mood for Nate Berkus

Happy Nate Berkus Day as declared by the fabulous the Moggit girls! Today I'm celebrating NB day and getting ready for the upcoming Mood Board Monday over at Pewter and Sage with a Nate Berkus-inspired bedroom mood board. If you're a regular reader, you probably know that I stalk the Nate Berkus collection on HSN, so lots of those items have been used in the board. The ones that are still available for purchase are listed and linked below. The bedding is from Pottery Barn and was one of my options for the MBM...it's on final sale and only the twin duvets are available. So, if you're wanting to work with a similar fabric, Celerie Kemble's Hot House (Spark colorway) could work.

Either the Pink or the Black colorway in this 350 Thread Count Lattice Pillowcase Pair and Sheet Set

Hexagon Cocktail Ottoman
Clearly I love this piece as it has appeared two days in a row on Knight Moves!

If using the green ottoman, I'd probably use the chair in white, however, I love this pink and it would work with the bedding too.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Nate Berkus Show which launches Sept 13th! I'll leave you with some of my favorite rooms designed by Mr. Berkus...
