Unsaturated + Saturated Living Room Board

It's been a while since I posted a design board, so I decided to create one that shows a living room scheme. I started with a fabulous smoky coal gray sofa from Jayson Home and a few bold pieces of art by Susie Reiss that I saw on Artsicle (another gallery that offers a rental option like Rise Art). The idea was to bring subdued tones together with saturated ones. I also mixed some rather classic pieces with more modern wares. Have a look...

Greta Table - Jayson Home
Ellis Sofa - Jayson Home
Olin Grey Rug - Crate & Barrel

Well, what do you think? Do you like the color mix? There is a lot of pink and red and I'm really liking how those shades look with the greys. Do you have any favorite items? I love the wild lime chair with the retro fabric...the shape is amazing. Unfortunately, it's part of a pair that is pretty pricey. On the unsaturated side, I really like the vintage aerial photograph. Because of the rural landscape, as first glance it looks like abstract art.

My Current Favorite Shade of Blue

For a while now I've been infatuated with a particular shade of blue. There's not a common name like turquoise to use to describe it, but to me it's the color of the sky on a bluebird day in Colorado so I'll refer to it as Bluebird Blue. Anyhow, the obsession was prompted by the paint color on these doors at one of my favorite Dallas stores, Blue Print....

Here's a digital swatch:

And here's a bedroom board based around a super cool handmade Jielde lamp that comes in my beloved hue...
Interloper, acrylic on canvas by Jeff Depner
Large Meurice Pendant - Jonathan Adler -$468 (sale price)
Rossmore Headboard - Empiric - $685+
Blue Jielde Desk Lamp - Empiric -$575
Anichini Kanishka Pillow - Gilt Home - $200
Empiric Bench - Empiric - $1175+
Brasilia Circles Pillow - Jonathan Adler - $195

What is your reaction to the color? Do you get fixated on certain hues too? If so, what is your current color obsession?

Any favorite things in the board? There are lots of other items besides the lamp that came from Empiric and I'm lovin' all of them! That white nightstand with the dark blue interior is bananas. I also adore the painting by Jeff Depner.

A Wall Full of Pink Art

A wall full of pink art sounds pretty extreme, right? Well, surprisingly I'm kind of loving the idea after playing with it on a board. Lately I've had numerous projects that have required artwork selection so I've been on the hunt for well-priced original work. During my searches, I keep gravitating towards pieces that include the color pink. Maybe it is because I'm looking for a few little girls' rooms or maybe it is because pink is EVERYWHERE lately and I can't get it out of my head.

In any case, I'm determined to incorporate some pink artwork into my own home now. I've been pinning tons of options and have been placing some pieces in mood boards for clients, so I had lots of pink pieces handy in Photoshop and decided to create a whole wall with a pink theme. All of the art below is from Etsy and all are originals except for the vintage Audubon print (which I framed with Larson-Juhl's awesome frame design tool). It's a pretty fun mix, right?

Taboo
The Blue and Green Trees
Flight
Flamingo Audubon Print
Blush
Farm Fresh Bouquet
The Pink Elephant
Likid Lebete

Also on the board is another recent obsession, the 108" long John Derian Field Bench with Back, which is made by a fav manufacturer of mine, Cisco Brothers. For years I've lusted after the normal Field Bench and now that it is available with a back I'm completely infatuated with owning one. In the board I paired it with two Casbah side tables from Jayson Home & Garden and two mini crystal lamps from Empiric.

What do you think of the crazy pink wall? Do you like any of the specific pieces?

The Greatest Place on Earth - Empiric

Empiric was one of my favorite stores in LA...loved their mix of goods. I could go on and on about how endlessly cool this place is, however, I'll abbreviate myself and only show my favorite shots of the store and the amazing things inside it.

View from the outside...

Cool refinished retro dresser

Awesome bar cart

This whole set-up is fabulous, that desk is the best.

They had lots of metal/industrial cabinets...I like the one below since it has a feminine touch.

I want this badly...it's a suspension lamp, so it hits the floor and ceiling.

Cute chair, I just love that Schumacher fabric.

 So many well-priced prints...my favorites:

Another amazing desk...check out the safe in there.

Shot of the ceiling and those killer chandeliers.

That's a giraffe skull in the middle!

I don't know what this is but I like it. Saber toothed tiger perhaps?

Darling little trophies

Store window displays...I'm dying over that credenza!

I would like to use these colored pencils here:
