MG+BW Ceramic Lamps

One of the fastest ways to perk up a room is to add a pair of richly-colored ceramic table lamps to the mix. They are classic and fun all at the same time, and as I've preached before, lamps are a necessity in most spaces because of the low-level lighting that they supply. A healthy dose of color and light can instantly improve a space and nothing is easier than plugging in a couple of lamps!

Christopher Spitzmiller, Made Goods, and Mottega, make some of the best shapes and colors of ceramic lamps. All of those purveyors specialize in premium, handmade ceramic bases and the pricing reflects that craftsmanship (i.e. they don't fit into most budgets). So, I'm always looking for more affordable options and was thrilled to find some at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. They have five different shapes of ceramic lamps and more than a dozen different colors to chose from. Each style has a different price tag they range from $225-$345. The good news is that MG+BW is having a sale and all lighting is 20% off until October 10, 2011!

My favorite style is the Genevieve because I like the shape of the base, the Lucite mounting, and the drum shade. Which one do you like best?

Genevieve - Rubix - Marilyn - Nola - Potter

If you got to bring one home, which color would you choose? I'm not usually the world's biggest yellow fan, but I like the Honey Gold and of course, all of the blues are appealing to me.

Stunning Sectionals

Ok, the adjective "stunning" might be a bit of a stretch for sectionals. These oversized sofas aren't normally considered attractive, much less stunning. I tend to think of pleather and recliners when I hear the term. I will say, however, that there are some really good looking sectionals these days which is fantastic because it's hard to beat the comfort and functionality that they offer. They provide lots of seating space and most importantly, plenty of room for lounging which is precisely why I put one in my own den.

Besides the one I have, which is made by Sherrill, these are a few of my favorite styles:
1) Sienna - High Fashion Home
2) Cobble Hill Tribeca - ABC Home
3) Clarke - Room & Board
4) Blake - West Elm
5) Agosto - Cisco Brothers
6) Jodi - High Fashion Home
7) Lampert - Jonathan Adler
8) Clifton - Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
9) Hyde - Williams-Sonoma Home
10) Sidecar - Crate & Barrel

11) Roman - High Fashion Home
12) Jackson - HW Home
13) Cobble Hill Prescott - ABC Home
14) Phoenix - Z Gallerie
15) Brooks (Thomas O'Brien for Hickory Chair) - HW Home
16) Gramercy - High Fashion Home
17) Tristan - Cisco Brothers
18) Cody Slipcovered (Taylor Scott) - Layla Grayce

Hickory Chair is an excellent source for a quality, American-made custom sectional. I also love lots of styles from Room Service, but their product photography isn't conducive to my needs :)

Do you have a sectional in your home?

Framing Options

I often look to Ugallery as a resource for original artwork. Yesterday as I was scrolling through the available paintings looking for affordable options for a client and I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a piece by Diana Delgado. I immediately fell in love with the vibrant colors and the overall chaotic energy that it effused. Called Glam and Glammer, it was wonderful to discover that it is a large scale work, coming in at 60" x 72". I am quite obsessed with huge, bold pieces of artwork.

I immediately grabbed the image and scurried over to Larson-Juhl's interactive frame design tool to see the piece all framed up nice and pretty. There are a variety of ways to frame a painting like this and I wanted to show my favorite ideas and provide some context in terms of what kind of room the pairing would complement. First off, this is Larson-Juhl's Silhouette (353806) frame. I love a good black frame with gold detail and this is a modern classic:

I like the mix of traditional and modern elements. What do you think?
I'll be posting more framing options + rooms later, so check back soon!
