Lamps in Every Shade of the Rainbow

Let it be know that you can now get virtually any color of lamp for $99 thanks to Color + Plus™, a new line that Lamps Plus is now carrying. The Ovo Lamp, is glass (I initially thought it was ceramic) is made in California...hooray that it's not made in China! With each lamp, you're able to select a made-to-order drum shade in either a print or a solid, so the world is your oyster. You can view all of the colors here, but here's this sampling to spark your interest...

What I like best is that the colors are matched to existing, documented colors so I can reference my Pantone or Sherwin Williams decks before ordering. I'm always bemoaning the fact that more manufacturers and retailers don't use Pantone to identify colors.

Although I'm not fully in love with the brushed steel accents, I think the Ovo has a great modern-but-not-too-modern look. I can definitely see them in kids' rooms and family rooms. If you're looking to use the Ovo in a more formal space, then you might consider changing the base to an acrylic one to dress it up a bit (which you should be able to do yourself, but it's hard to say for sure without seeing it in person).

I would also suggest ditching the banal metal ball finial and upgrading that element of the lamp. Check out The Finial Touch...they have some fab lamp toppers on sale for only $25! While they aren't on sale, I do love the malachite beauties in the Bon Vivant Collection...

New Colors from Dunes and Duchess

Dunes and Duchess, one of my favorite purveyors of handmade lighting and furniture, added two AMAZING, bold new colors to their lineup - Cap Ferrat Bleu and No Scurvy Lemon. Both hues were custom mixed and are so fresh and unique...which is not surprising because the entire D&D collection is the epitome of fresh and unique. Here's a sampling of their wondrous creations...

I'm quite inspired by the new super saturated colors and my wheels have been turning about how I can incorporate some Dunes and Duchess pieces into current projects. Their product line is diverse and the overall style is super versatile, so I'm sure a plan will come to fruition. Long live Cap Ferrat Bleu and No Scurvy Lemon! The colors are so fun and they perfectly complement the classical, hand-turned Dunes and Duchess aesthetic. What are your thoughts?

If you got to pick any D&D piece in any color, what would you choose? I'm crazy about the entire collection so it's tough to narrow it down, but I would die for the Chappy Dining Table in the Cap Ferrat Bleu! Here is the shapely beauty in black...

Because I adore the owners, their business ethos, and their gorgeous creations, I'm a MAJOR fan of D&D (and surely you've caught onto that by now).

Colorful Glass and Ceramic Lamps

Shades of Light has some snazzy new lamps that come in fresh, vibrant colors that you might like to know about. They are basic but still bring plenty of personality and style to the table. First off, I'm lovin' the Recycled Glass Ball Table Lamp...the blue and green are gorgeous and could be put in almost any style of room. They are about $300 per lamp...

And second, the Pop Color Modern Ceramic Lamp is a double gourd ceramic style that comes in seven colors and each one comes with a glossy drum shade with a contrasting lining. My favorites are the soft coral and the navy.  The coral comes with a matching shade with aqua lining and the Navy has a white shade with navy lining. They are about $400 per lamp, so unfortunately they aren't a bargain, but I'm sure they are worth it especially given the special shades.

As I've rattled on about before, lamps are essential to most rooms. They can play an important role in the style profile and color story of the space. Even if everything else is pretty vanilla, you can really make a difference by using bold lamps...they're like sprinkles ;)

Just when I think I'm tired of seeing Jonathan Adler goods (they are EVERYWHERE now), JA puts out some irresistible new buyables and I'm sucked back into the love affair. Here are the recent releases that top my list:

The new colors of Bargello pillows are really fun. I especially like the blue/pink/orange color palette because it's playful but not too over the top. I'd use it for an adult space but it would also be really cute for a playroom or a nursery.

I'm also madly in love with the Channing Three Drawer Console. The lucite and polished nickel knobs are bananas. Besides serving as a console, I also think this piece would make a fantastic vanity or a slim desk. Here it is in a mod JA-tastic vignette, which I love aside from the scary devil lamps...

Adler has created a brand with a carefree, vivacious aesthetic and I'm drawn to that, the vivid colors, and the mid-century influence. Despite the overexposure of the brand, I'll always love it!

2012 New Releases from Made Goods

I have fawned over Made Goods before and I'm going to do it again because they a) relaunched their website and it has been vastly improved, b) expanded their product line for 2012, and c) flat-out produce absolutely amazing things and should be commended for their efforts!

Made Goods has the coolest style and unparalleled quality of materials and craftsmanship. Their aesthetic blends lots of styles and is hard to categorize. You could call it funky, sophisticated, chic, exotic, natural...but definitely not boring or ordinary. In a world full of copycats (i.e. Wisteria and Ballard Designs), they really lead the pack and come up with fresh, inventive designs. Being someone that's always craving something novel, I appreciate their creative spirit and stellar execution of their vision. Here's a sampling of their creations...

I'm infatuated with Made Goods' interchangeable accent tables and tops. My favorite base is the Osten and I can't pick a top that I like best because they are all fab...

They've released new additions to their product lineup and many of them have made my covet list. there is lots of turquoise faux shagreen, inlaid bone detailing, and perfectly antiqued mirrored finishes. Have a look at some of my favorites...

Etsy Obsession

Etsy is the jam...seriously. You can find really unique stuff on there and the prices are generally awesome. I constantly source artwork, pillows, lighting, rugs, accessories, and vintage furniture from Etsy sellers. Trust me, if you haven't already shopped Etsy, you should! Arteriors Lamps in the Entry

While I was picking up some shades for a client, I spotted a killer pair of lamps at Arteriors Too, the Arteriors outlet that's located here in Dallas. Here's the thing about this pair of lamps...I've been wanting them for years now and just haven't wanted to spend the money on them. They were a steal at the outlet and I figured it was a now or never moment, so they're mine now!

Called the Vance Candlestick Table Lamp, the style is really classic. With a polished nickel finish and a height of nearly three feet, the effect is dramatic but not trendy. They are really versatile so I considered putting them in a few different places around the house, but ultimately the tired old hand-me-down lamps on the commode in the entry needed to be replaced so that's where the Vance duo will reside. The former lamps were spray painted brass with a (visible) horrible Gorilla glue repair job and cheap shades that would never sit straight and - a pretty pathetic scene. So in the spirit of the upcoming new year...out with the old, in with the new!

Dallas peeps should definitely check out Arteriors Too...it's on Lovers Lane just past Inwood. They have all kinds of lighting, furniture, and accessories and the inventory is always changing. It's also a great source for lamp shades, finials, and harps.

For those who don't have access to the outlet, you can shop Arteriors product line at tons of different online retailers. And for the next two days, you can shop One Kings Lane's Arteriors Home sale and get prices like you would at the Dallas outlet! These cool green ceramic lamps are one of my favorite styles and they're included in the sale...

MG+BW Ceramic Lamps

One of the fastest ways to perk up a room is to add a pair of richly-colored ceramic table lamps to the mix. They are classic and fun all at the same time, and as I've preached before, lamps are a necessity in most spaces because of the low-level lighting that they supply. A healthy dose of color and light can instantly improve a space and nothing is easier than plugging in a couple of lamps!

Christopher Spitzmiller, Made Goods, and Mottega, make some of the best shapes and colors of ceramic lamps. All of those purveyors specialize in premium, handmade ceramic bases and the pricing reflects that craftsmanship (i.e. they don't fit into most budgets). So, I'm always looking for more affordable options and was thrilled to find some at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. They have five different shapes of ceramic lamps and more than a dozen different colors to chose from. Each style has a different price tag they range from $225-$345. The good news is that MG+BW is having a sale and all lighting is 20% off until October 10, 2011!

My favorite style is the Genevieve because I like the shape of the base, the Lucite mounting, and the drum shade. Which one do you like best?

If you got to bring one home, which color would you choose? I'm not usually the world's biggest yellow fan, but I like the Honey Gold and of course, all of the blues are appealing to me. 

Lamp Mate Found at the Foundary!

I'm so excited that I was able to purchase a mate for my new aqua glass lamp on the Foundary today! I've been stalking my local HomeGoods hoping to to find one and I was just about to give up on the mission when I clicked through from my daily sale announcement and stumbled upon the lamp in the Artisan Lamp event. Here is my lamp in the guest room....

They also have a 28 inch Crystal Balustrade Lamp that looks really similar to the pair that I have in my bedroom.

The Foundary has all kinds of wares for home. You might recall that I ordered my pretty Arzu rug from the Foundary back in March...

Anyhow, they have great stuff and fabulous prices so be sure to become a member and keep an eye on their sales!

Another Score in the Lamp Department at HomeGoods

Check out this killer lamp I spotted --> grabbed --> bought last week at HomeGoods. It's exactly the same as the ones that Shades of Light and Anthropologie sell for about $250...at HG it was $69! Anyhow, I picked it up for a client with the goal of finding a twin at a different store. She needs a pair and I had no luck on my quest so she's going with a different set.

I might try to use it in another project and if it doesn't work there, I'm tempted to keep it...even though I absolutely do not need another lamp! In the pic below, it's in a guest room and the color looks great in there. Realistically, I want a pair for that room because I plan to put two nightstands in there (right now there is just one along with a bookcase).

Such a steal, right? Do you ever shop at HomeGoods? If there's a store anywhere close to you, be sure to keep tabs on the lamp department!

Lamps to Love

I have a hard-core obsession with lighting, especially lamps. Table lamps are an essential element to almost every room in the house since they provide forgiving, low-level light and can be a game-changer in terms of aesthetics. Basically, lamps can make a huge difference in how a space looks and feels so it's important to choose wisely. Or you can become a lamp hoarder like me and change the ones in your home constantly (I don't recommend falling down that rabbit hole though).

With thousands of colors and styles out there, it can be hard to narrow down the possibilities. So, I've compiled a list of some of my recent favorites...

Unfortunately most couldn't be categorized as bargains. I'm pretty good at finding deals, but it's really tough to get well-made, beautiful lamps at good prices. I've had great luck at HomeGoods where many are under $50. I've also seen some good deals at World Market and sometimes at Target. If you have any sources for more affordable lamps, please share!

Made Goods Magic

Oh how I am coveting the goodies from Made Goods. This small company produces wonderfully unique products including furniture, lighting, mirrors, and accessories. I am especially smitten with their mirrors...there are tons of amazing styles and many are handcrafted with ultra luxe materials like lapis and malachite. The whole product line is certainly worth ogling over, but to give you a taste of their style, I've picked a few favorites...
