Color Obsession - Warm Red

I've always loved oranges, corals, pinks, and reds and lately I've been so drawn to a color that combines that whole tonal range. You could call it a variety of things (neon saffron or hot coral, perhaps?) but Pantone's label is warm red, so I'll go with that. Here are some buyables along with the Pantone swatch to give you a visual of what I'm talking about:

XOXO Acrylic Occasional Table Red - Alexandra Von Furstenberg --- Hand Printed Cotton Fabric - Etsy - $9.50
Per Lutken Bulge Vase - Etsy - $190 --- Backgammon Set - Barney's - $795 --- Painting - Emily Rickard
Afghan Turkoman Runner - Oak Park Antiques - $1,195 --- Kim Seybert Latticed Cocktail Napkin - Barney's - $12

As you can see, the color is super saturated and bright and it looks amazing against dark hues like navy blue and brown and with neutral shades like camel and ivory. I like it alongside navy so much that I'm considering painting a vanity with warm red lacquer to go in my newly blue bedroom. I picked up this nail polish (Revlon Fearless 640) in case I want to do a color match...

What do you think about the color? It's definitely not for the faint of heart!

The Versatile Vase

As many of you know, I'm a contributor on the HomeGoods Openhouse blog. In an effort to incorporate seasonal themes into the blog, HG sent all of the bloggers a surprise accessory that we were to play around with and write about. Lucky for me, the common thread for the different items was to be the color orange! I ended up receiving this glossy, oversized bamboo vase.

As you can see from the above pics and also on my Openhouse post, I ghetto-rigged an "arrangement" with some green filler from the yard and then tried it in a few different rooms. Since the vessel is so large, I started thinking that it could make for a cool accent table. Luckily, one of my side tables has a removable marble insert, so I used that for the top.

Here it is in the guest bedroom...

and then in the living room...

I probably won't use it as a table since I really don't need an accent table, but I like the idea since the color and shape are so fun. What do you think?

Orange Crush

You've probably caught on to the fact that I love orange. In case you haven't yet, today I'm making my sentiments pretty clear. I've officially declared my devotion to the color in our covered patio with an Orange Crush vintage sign that I scored during my semi-annual trip to Round Top.

I'm not really into signs, but this one just jumped out at me...probably because the color palette and size were perfect for filling the void on the wall. Since the sign is made to be hung outdoors, it really is ideal for the area.

I also nabbed this cool wire basket.

I've been on the look-out for one that is a good size for beach towels and this one fit the bill.

What do you think of the sign...kind of fun or cheesy? Be honest :)

Trellis Bedding and Curtains

After being flooded with emails after yesterday's post, I quickly realized that I did not provide enough explanation about the Walmart trellis bedding/curtain situation. I've tried to answer all of your questions here, but let me know if I've left anything out.

Let's start at the beginning...about a year ago, I ran across the bedding on Pronto Home and immediately clicked through the link because I'm obsessed with anything orange and I also loved the trellis print. It was shocking to me that Walmart had such au courant home decor, and it was even more shocking to see the price tag - $25 for a twin duvet and sham. Seriously?!? That price is unreal...even IKEA bedding is more expensive (I think). I'm not going to lie...I absolutely hate Walmart so the idea of buying bed linens from there was not appealing, no matter how good the deal was.

The black colorway is nice too.

Despite my distaste for the retailer, I decided to bite the bullet and give the set a try since a) it was dirt cheap b) it was for a bed that wouldn't get much use and c) it could be returned if it was terrible. I begrudgingly chose the "Site to Store" shipping option since that was free and having it shipped to my house would've cost almost as much as the merchandise. Luckily my trip to the dreaded store turned out to be fruitful and I was glad to discover that the print was in the perfect color and the fabric seemed to be of decent quality when I picked it up in the oh-so-lovely customer service area.

I liked the print so much that I bought two more sets when I got home. In the room, I had planned to cover the back wall with curtains. The main reason being that there is only one window and it's offset to right...the boxy canopy frame of the daybed and the window clashed in terms of symmetry. Plus, that window doesn't let much light in due to the dense trees on the exterior so I wasn't sacrificing much by covering it.

Anyhow, I ordered the king size duvet sets so that I could make curtains from the fabric. As it turned out, I didn't really "make" curtains...I actually just attached clip-on curtain rings and strung them on a rod. I literally put the duvets up there as is...no cutting or seaming. Normally I wouldn't do that, but it looked good and this wasn't a room that I wanted to fuss with much. If you try this, just make sure to steam or press the fabric and evenly space the rings so it looks at sharp as possible.

On the quality factor, I'm pretty pleased (especially for a $25 investment). The fabric isn't stiff or uncomfortable and shockingly, the seams and buttons are all fine. After washing it, the color did run, but it has since come out after soaking it in some colorsafe bleach. If you buy the set, my advice is to soak it in vinegar prior to washing since that should set the colors.

Also, on another note, the trundle daybed was purchased last summer from Z Gallerie. Unfortunately they no longer carry it and I haven't seen a similar option. If I do...I'll be sure to post the information.

Hope that helps! Sorry I left you hanging yesterday :)

Orange Power

I'm definitely coming in first for the Super Flaky Blogger of the Week award...sorry about that! Been a busy bee and have thus neglected my digital life. My goal is to get a paint post wrapped up this weekend - I'll be listing wall color formulas, room by room throughout our house, so stay tuned.

Anyhow, today I bring you pics of orange goodies that have been recently welcomed into the Knight house. I'm so happy it's spring and bright colors are out and about!

Gorgeous orange roses...$9.99 per dozen from the grocery store. They were made for this room!

Jack & Lulu Stripey Straws and IOMOI pencils in my favorite hue...thanks to my sweet cousin for these gifties! I will now be drinking and writing grocery lists in style :)

Also from IOMOI and a gift from a cousin, here's my new cute Greek key monogrammed coaster.  It's obviously not orange, but since it sits on an orange stool, it qualifies for the post!

She also gave me this darling orange ikat bowl full of candy...it's a little less full now than when she gave it to me :)
