Unsaturated + Saturated Living Room Board

It's been a while since I posted a design board, so I decided to create one that shows a living room scheme. I started with a fabulous smoky coal gray sofa from Jayson Home and a few bold pieces of art by Susie Reiss that I saw on Artsicle (another gallery that offers a rental option like Rise Art). Well, what do you think? Do you like the color mix? There is a lot of pink and red and I'm really liking how those shades look with the greys. Do you have any favorite items? I love the wild lime chair with the retro fabric...the shape is amazing. Unfortunately, it's part of a pair that is pretty pricey. On the unsaturated side, I really like the vintage aerial photograph. Because of the rural landscape, as first glance it looks like abstract art.

My Current Favorite Shade of Blue

For a while now I've been infatuated with a particular shade of blue. There's not a common name like turquoise to use to describe it, but to me it's the color of the sky on a bluebird day in Colorado so I'll refer to it as Bluebird Blue. Anyhow, the obsession was prompted by the paint color on these doors at one of my favorite Dallas stores, Blue Print....

Any favorite things in the board? There are lots of other items besides the lamp that came from Empiric and I'm lovin' all of them! That white nightstand with the dark blue interior is bananas. I also adore the painting by Jeff Depner.

A Bedroom Built Around a Benedict

I've recently been fixated on the paintings of accomplished contemporary artist, Sally King Benedict. Her work is perfect for a few of my clients and my friend Bradley (of the fab fashion blog Luella & June) is also hankering for one of Sally's pieces, so I've been keeping my eye on her online inventory over the past few weeks. By merely viewing her art online, it's easy to tell that Sally is an outstanding colorist. While digitally soaking in the beauty of her creations is a fabulous experience, I'm sure that it's a million times better in person! Hopefully I'll be able to get up close and personal with a piece in the near future and can report back :)

It would be nearly impossible for me to pick a "favorite," however, one piece that I just can't get out of my head is called Cool Water. I love the movement and the fresh color palette...

Furniture Sale at Horchow

Horchow is having one of their catch-all sales, and this time furniture is 25% off. Whenever I get these emails, I usually click through to make sure that there aren't any sale items that would work for clients (or myself, if we're being completely honest). A Room Full of Layla Grayce

I was recently wrapping up an e-design project and as the source list was about to be sent off, I noticed that I had included tons of items from Layla Grayce. I usually avoid sourcing too many things from one retailer because it can result in a cheesy, matchy-matchy catalog look. Luckily, since LG offers such a wide variety of styles and works with so many brands and manufacturers, that pitfall doesn't occur as easily. After taking another look at the design scheme, it certainly wasn't obvious that the pieces from Layla Grayce all came from the same place. So off it went!

Anyhow, I hadn't posted a mood board in a while so thought it would be fun to take some of what I had going on for my client and fill in with ALL Layla Grayce goods to illustrate just how versatile their product offering is. I couldn't help but use tons of Oly Studio since budget wasn't an issue for this exercise!

What do you think? Any favorite pieces? I love the Moonlight Pendants and like how using them on both sides of the bed allows the nightstand to be clear. The lighting setup is ideal for a poster bed since hanging an overhead light (centered in the room) can be tricky with posts and canopies.

Unbridled Bathroom Design

A reader recently emailed me about creating a design for her future bathroom. Since her fiance is in medical school and will be beginning his residency soon, she actually doesn't know where this bathroom will be...so there aren't nitty gritty details to take into account yet. As far as color goes, she mentioned blues and grey, and noted that there are touches of yellow and green around their current apartment. Other than those broad parameters, I had a blank slate and it was fun creating the following bathroom look for the soon-to-be-wed couple:

Keeping her fiance in mind, I tried not to go too girly...the use of navy and the industrial accents help in that regard. What do you think?

Mood Board Monday - Rainy Day Bedroom

Pewter & Sage is hosting another Mood Board Monday...this time, the theme is "beautiful bedding." Specifically, we were given a few different bedding options to choose from, then we were to create a bedroom around our choice.

I LOVE bed linens so I was pumped about this one! I even did two moodboards...the first was for Nate Berkus day :) They are so different from each other...one is super colorful and this one is much more neutral. Do you have a favorite between the two?

Always in the mood for Nate Berkus

Happy Nate Berkus Day as declared by the fabulous the Moggit girls! Today I'm celebrating NB day and getting ready for the upcoming Mood Board Monday over at Pewter and Sage with a Nate Berkus-inspired bedroom mood board. If you're a regular reader, you probably know that I stalk the Nate Berkus collection on HSN, so lots of those items have been used in the board.
